Chilled Fresh Produce Warehouse – Kent
Overview
We worked in conjunction with our client and the air handling company to create a large single span building to be used to chill and store fresh strawberries immediately after they have been harvested from the fields. The client’s prestigious customers operate a strict performance criteria in relation to the storage of the strawberries. This requires the fruit to be reduced down and maintained at a constant temp of 3 deg C within 20mins of arriving in the building.
Every aspect of the building was carefully designed to ensure maximum insulation levels combined with minimum air leakage in order to ensure that the building complied with the company’s environmental policies. Energy consumption was a major consideration, and was also a consideration that our client’s customers were keen to impose when they carried out audits of their suppliers. The build programme including ground works had to be planned around the busy harvesting season when the picking, packing and distribution operations could not be compromised
